The longer someone is off work, the less likely they are to return to work. Research tells us that the chance of returning to work is only 50% if someone has been off work for 45 days. That reduces to 35% if the worker is off for another month.

Therefore, it is important to engage employees in “good work” to encourage their return to work. Remember, most employees can return to work as soon as they have some capacity and once it is safe to do so.
